Just like building a house, you also need to have an excellent location to have your garden in starting a garden. Have your garden where it’s easy to see to monitor your plants. Also, consider checking the amount of sunlight the area has; pay attention to how sunlight plays through the area for you to have the best options for your plants.

2. The Measuring

Before making your garden, measure the area where you’ll have it so you don’t have any future issues when your plants start growing. You have to know how much space your garden will take for space control.

3. The Soil and Seeds

Soil the seeds

Before anything else, sort out the seeds you’re going to plant. Make sure the seeds are appropriate for planting in the season. Many are having problems growing plants because they’re planting the wrong seeds in that season. Don’t make the same mistake as others did. You also have to check the type of soil you’re about to grow your plants and see whether it’s best for the seeds.

4. The Nursery

Before planting directly on land, consider having a nursery for your seedlings to grow. A nursery is a smart approach for sorting out and choosing the plants you’ll have for your garden. This way, you can easily monitor the growth of your seedlings without having a long trip to your garden.

You might ask this question: How much water do my plants need every day? Well, you have to look into the factors that affect the state of your plants, such as the weather, the location of your garden (is it near a water source), the type of soil, and the plant itself. If the temperature is high, your plants may need more water.

If your garden has a direct water source, there’s no need to water them that much. If you’re using a type of soil that’s muddy, making it hard for the water to seep in, then you might have to replant in better soil. Look into your plants too. Are they the type that doesn’t need everyday watering, or do your plants need more water than other types of plants?

Also, consider using the three-second rule when watering. You want

6. Feed The Plants

Maintaining your garden means you have to ensure that your plants receive the nutrients they need. This brings you to the feeding of your plants regularly. Planting in great soil works best when there’s a boost of premium quality nutrients for your growing plants. So you better choose the fertilizers that best suit your plants and observe their growth for successful gardening.

7. Leaves, Not Fruits

When taking care of plants, you need to look into the LEAVES and NOT THE FRUITS. Plants, especially the edible ones, have a basic life cycle; most start as seeds, then grow and establish roots, then a stem, then follow the leaves and flower, and eventually the fruits, and back to the beginning once again. But why look into the leaves more than the fruits?

Well, leaves show more signs of growth than the fruit, for the fruit comes later. In the leaves, you can track the progress of the health of your plants, and you’ll be able to identify which plant is sick and needs more nutrition easily.

8. Protect The Plants

It is unavoidable that pests come to your garden, which means that your plants need as much protection to survive and eventually provide you with food. There are a bunch of pesticides that you can use but make sure that you choose the best that suits your plants.

You can also use lots of DIY pest repellants for your plants. One of which is the eggshells. After cooking some eggs for breakfast, don’t toss the shells away; instead, save them and use them to cover the base of your plants. That way, not only do your plants receive calcium, but the eggshells also repel some insects that might hurt your plants.

9. The Mulch

The mulch plays a big role in protecting your plants. The mulch serves as a ground cover that insulates your plants against the cold. It blocks the sun, reducing moisture loss and keeping your plants from getting dried up.

It is also an excellent way to prevent weeds from growing around your plants, competing for the nutrients from the fertilizers. Other than mulch, you can also put straw, shredded leaves, or some other material as an alternative.

Starting a garden and then maintaining it takes lots of time and effort. And with the hard work, you’ll be able to get the sweet results in the form of fruits and vegetables. Gardening is such a great investment. Not only will you get food but you’ll also learn a lot about plants and everything else in the garden.
