Many people love to garden but don’t enjoy doing it all the time. Maybe it’s because you only have a certain amount of time, or perhaps you’re not in the mood.

Whatever the reason is, you don’t need to abandon all your gardening ideas. There is a solution to that, and it’s an easy one. That solution is a DIY gardening apron.

This blog will explore how you can make your DIY gardening apron that is perfect for you.

What is a DIY Gardening Apron?

A gardening apron is a clothing item explicitly worn by gardeners. It is typically sturdy fabric and features a waistband and pockets for storage.

Some aprons have ties at the waist to keep them in place, while others are fitted with straps to help keep the arms in place.

Gardeners may also use them to protect their clothing from mud, dirt, and other debris while working in the garden.

Why Do You Need a DIY Gardening Apron?

A gardening apron is essential gear for anyone interested in gardening.

It will keep you safe from getting dirty, and it can also help protect your clothing and tools from damage.

Gardening aprons range in price and features, so find the right one for your needs.

Here are some reasons why you might want to invest in a gardening apron:

  • Gardening can be physically demanding, and wearing proper safety gear will help reduce the risk of injury. An apron will protect your clothing from dirt and debris and cushioning impact if you fall.
  • DIY Gardening Apron comes in many different styles, colors, and sizes. It means that they can be tailored to fit any body type or style of gardening tool.
  • Gardening aprons can also come with built-in pockets to store your tools and supplies.

Benefits of Using DIY Gardening Apron

A gardening apron is not just for women. Men can also benefit from using one to avoid getting dirty and protect their clothing.

Here are the benefits of using a gardening apron:

It Keeps You Clean.

Gardening can be a messy business. Between dirt, grass, and other debris, it’s not uncommon to have stains on your clothes.

And if you’re like most gardeners, you probably don’t want to spend time cleaning your clothes every time you work in the garden.

That’s where a gardening apron comes in handy.

It protects your clothing.

A gardening apron is a great way to protect your clothing from becoming ruined by dirt. It will keep your clothing clean and free from any dirt or dust that may get on it.

Additionally, the apron’s fabric will be resistant to tears or rips, which can happen if you are working with heavy materials.

It protects against insects and other pests.

Wearing a gardening apron can help protect you from these pests. A gardening apron is made of fabric, and it is designed to cover the body.

This garment helps keep bugs away from your skin and protects against dirt and debris.

Some people even use them when working in their garden to keep themselves safe from spiders and other crawling creatures.

How to Make a DIY Gardening Apron?

Making a DIY gardening apron is cost-effective and very easy to do. All you need is some fabric and a few supplies.

Here are the steps on how to make your own:

Step 1: You should cut out fabric and ribbon.

Cut out the following pieces from the cloth on the floor: one 20 inch × 26-inch piece (apron body).

To make an apron tie, cut one 4 inch x desired length strip around your waist. One-piece measuring 20 x 18 inches (pocket body). Two 12 inch ribbon pieces.

Step 2: Fold the apron’s body.

Fold the 20-inch-by-26-inch fabric in half with the right sides facing out. It should be 20 inches by 13 inches in size. It would be best if you pinned it in place.

Step 3: Sew the edges.

Sew across the apron body’s three open edges, leaving about a one-inch seam.

Step 4: Shear the Edges

You can use pinking shears to trim the sewed edges of the apron body. The edges will not fray as a result of this.

Repeat all of these processes for the apron body on the pocket body.

Begin by folding the pocket body into a square measuring 18 inches by 10 inches.

Set it aside once it’s sewed and trimmed with the pinking shears.

Step 5: Make the Tie

With the good sides facing out, fold the 4-inch cloth in half. It creates a cloth strip 2 inches wide by the length you choose.

It would help if you pinned it in place. Sew a 1/2 inch seam on all three edges of the tie. Then, using the pinking shears, cut the edges.

Step 6: Attach the Tie

It would be best to center the tie on the apron’s top. Without the shearing, this is the folded edge. It would help if you pinned it in place.

Step 7: Tuck in the Ribbon

Place the two pieces of ribbon on top of each other, and tuck them under the apron tie about 3 inches in from the side while the apron tie is pinned to the apron body.

They should be pinned down. Then stitch the apron tie that sits on the apron body around all four sides.

Step 8: Tie the Ribbon Ends

To keep the ribbon from fraying, tie a knot at the ends.

Step 9: Attach the Pocket

Under the apron tie, center the pocket body on the apron body. Secure it with a pin.

Sew the pocket on three sides but leave the top open. Divide the apron pocket into three equal parts.

Sew two evenly spaced straight lines down the big apron pocket to make three pockets.

Step 10: Twine Holder

One ribbon should be pushed through the ball of twine and tied off. You can now take twine with you wherever you go!
